For our music video we tried to plan everything thoroughly to create the best possible video. We had the band in the video wearing slim fit clothing as this suited the genre of music and what the audience would be expecting to see when they were watching the video. In our music video the band are wearing skinny jeans and a t-shirt which would fit in with the style of the video well. We tried to use a variety of locations for our video, this included the beach, Collingwood monument, promenade along the sea front and more. This would be enough to keep the audience interested and see the transition from one time frame to the next. We used several props in our music video too. We used a roulette wheel, poker chips, playing cards, dice, a ring and a poker table cloth. This was to create a realistic setting mainly for our casino scenes which were the most difficult to replicate. The motif which we used in our music video was to symbolise the ring which would relate to the female character that was in the video. The ring was used as a symbol as to what he has lost and a constant reminder of that. We ensured that the band had the correct hair styles that would be suitable to the genre of the band and the song. We were going to use a dissolve effect between clips to allow them to flow more easily. We were also going to use black and white clips to recreate flashbacks and make it clear to the audience what this resembled.
What use have you made of unusual camera angles?
We tried to use as many camera angles as possible, this was to keep the audience interested and entertained. The use of a crane shot allowed the audience to see the band members walk off very relaxed. We performed over the shoulder shots which allowed the target audience to see close ups of the surroundings which were going on at that time, an example of this, is when the boyfriend opens the suitcase to look at the note from the girlfriend, the target audience can clearly see what the note says and imagine what the outcome is for the boyfriend. We also had camera angles which have a different look to them, instead of having them facing the front of the band we also have them facing behind them and also at an angle so the target audience doesn’t become bored at just having the one shot constantly through the video.
What has your style of editing contributed?
The style of editing we have created is fast paced at times to match the song we have chosen. We have created shots which have matched the music, for example when our drum player hits the pedal that’s what happens in the video. We have created black and white effects to show past times from the storyline and have added dissolved shots to show the loss of poker chips during the poking scenes. We have also used the slow motion effect to show the tension of the addiction of the person who gambles. We have used fading shots to fade into shots, an example of this is the roulette wheel fading into the ring, this works well as they are both a circular shape.
