This music video taken an unorthodox route in making a music video as it uses still images rather than a video. I do like the way they have put the video together and how the video links together with the title of the song. The video is about a man who wastes his “precious time” by doing jigsaws, drawing and making paper aeroplanes etc. It shows how you can make time work for you by doing what you want rather than what you don’t want to do. It would be taking a risk by going down this path and using still images and I don’t think it would be suitable for the song that we have chosen to complete. The only camera angle that is used is a P.O.V shot from the man. The music video is very creative and different to anything I have ever seen before. The props that are used in this video are paper, scissors and pens which are used to create different effects and images on the video. The video is all about wanting to do what you want to do and not anything else. There is no real star image in this video that makes it stand out from the rest.
The mise-en-scene that is used in this music video contains different elements of props, lighting and settings. The video uses many props which includes a wooden desk where the man completes different activities such as drawing etc. Pen and paper are also used in this music video which is used to create a replica of the bands album cover. Scissors are also used in this video which are used to cut out animals which come to life on the desk moving around all over the place. Mugs of tea are also used in the video which is used to create stains on the paper which turn into eyes watching the animals running around on the desk. Cardboard cut-outs of the bands faces are used which are used to cut out the bands mouths making it look like they are singing in parts of the song. Playing cards are edited to feature the members of the band as each card is placed in its own suit the band member rotates. A jigsaw is used to create members of the band which are used to sing parts of the song.
The lighting that is used in this video seems to be natural daylight in a house. This light remains the same throughout the video until the very end when night comes in and the lighting turns dark. There is only one setting used in this video which is a room with a desk in it.
The idea of the concept is so simple but the way it has been put together makes it very effective.
