Video Analysis - Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent

The setting of this video is in a typical indie scene, which is in a rundown area. The area is a rundown warehouse in the middle of nowhere. This music video is very different to most other videos as the video includes two groups, one being a group of robbers and the other group are dressed up in clown costumes. The costumes of the robbery group are very indie stylish as they are wearing jeans and also have jackets on.
When the two groups are fighting the editing is very fast as it captures all the action that is happening. The camera angles during the fight scene are close up shots so the audience can see the facial expressions on the people faces.
The rivalry includes what used to be two best friends fighting each other and a two shot is used to show them pausing whilst the fighting is going on in the background.
Throughout the fighting the props used are chairs and pipes which are used as weapons. During the film a man pulls out a chain from the boot of the car and slams it onto the car window to make it smash as the smash happens the musical instruments link it at the same time so it seems as if the smashing noise is coming from the musical instruments, this backs up Andrew Goodwin theory of linking the relationship between the lyrics and visuals.
When the two main people are fighting by themselves a low angle shot is used to show the person in control of the fight on top of the defenceless person this indicates he has more power over the other person in this situation.
In contrast the video shows flashbacks of the two ex friends playing with each other at a young age, with the same kind of clothing as they are wearing now.
During the fight between the two groups the editing is still fast pace cutting between each shot which is showing violence such as smashed bottles and punches being thrown.
At 2 minutes 45 seconds when the villain is in the car a zoom in shot is used to indicate the person’s eyes zooming in on the leaking petrol. They then use a prop which is the lighter showing an editing technique which is in slow motion as you see it fall to the floor heading towards the petrol creating the suspense for it to ignite.
