Video Analysis - Snow Patrol – Run

Right at the start of the song, the song name contradicts itself as one of the band members is walking with the bike instead of him running with it.  The setting at the start of the video is a rundown area with him walking on a road, this is a typical look for either an indie or rock band. A medium shot is used so the whole location can be shown to the watching audience to see the lightening and the prop of the bike whilst him walking.
The first image you see of the person in the band his costume is what you would expect an indie/ rock person to wear as the clothes are not causal but aren’t smart either.
During the video the setting becomes darker as it turns from day time too night showing his slow pace instead of being fast, which would indicate him running however instead he is doing the opposite to the song name.
As soon as the lyrics “light up” are showing a prop is used which is a flare which brightens up the area which it is set in, to indicate the lyrics purpose. A medium shot is used to show the whole band holding flares and lightening up the dark surroundings. This brightens up the song as the pace of the song becomes quicker and more intense. This also backs up Andrew Goodwin’s theory of the relationship between the lyrics and visuals.
Once the  lyrics involving “light up, light up” are finished the flare then fades out and is extinguished in the water signalling that the chorus has finished and they are moving on to the next verse, which is a slow pace mood once again.
The narrative of the story indicates the person is being very serious with his facial expressions and speaking the song instead of singing it as normal until the chorus and that is when the song brightens up.
This video will help me produce my own video as I can use the different techniques from this video such as the lighting and the costumes of the characters.
