Props
We need a few props for our music video these includes a roulette wheel, poker chips, poker table, money, a ring, musical instruments and playing cards. The roulette wheel will be used as part of the narrative which is about a man gambling addiction where he has to choose between his love for gambling and his family. The roulette wheel will be used at the end of the video which will decide what happens at the end of the video. The poker chips are also going to be used throughout the video as they will be featured throughout the video where the main character is at the casino. The playing cards will be used at similar times as the poker chips along with the money which will be used when the main character wins or lose showing the audience whether he has won or lost. The ring will be a central part of the video as it will be used when the couple split as the ring drops to the floor a close-up shot at floor level. It will be used to signify the end of the relationship between the two main characters. The musical instruments will be used for the performance scenes of the band which will include two electric guitars, one bass guitar and a drum kit.
Settings
There are three settings we are planning to use for our music video, these are a stage, a casino and a street. The stage will be used for the performance elements of the video, this will be to make it look like an authentic performance rather than a low quality one. The casino will be the main setting for our storyline which will be the fall point of the main character as he gambles his life away. As most of the music video will be shot in this setting the location must look realistic and authentic. The beach will be used when the girlfriend throws her ring to the floor, this will give the video a original setting and also allow the audience to see the ring more closely. Finally a street will be used at the end of the music video to show the main character whose life is crumbling. The main character’s ex-girlfriend then walks past the main character that has a new boyfriend and is pregnant. It shows the main character is down in the dumps whilst the ex-girlfriend is now successful.
Lighting
At the beginning of the video when the man is standing in front of the black background half of his face will be lit up and the other half of his face will be left in the dark. This will be used for the lyrics “I can see a darker side, I can see it in your eyes.” For the performance extracts of the video we will have quite bright lighting. For most of the video in the casino we will have quite dark lighting which will give it quite an effective look, it will also allow the audience to see that it is destroying his life. When the scene where the girlfriend throws he ring to the floor there will only be natural light that are being used.
Costumes / Make Up
The band will be wearing a ‘stereotypical’ indie outfit which will include slim fit clothes etc. Suits will be required for the main character and the dealer when he goes to the casino. The main character will be wearing normal clothes (t-shirt and jeans) for when they are walking on the beach. The girlfriend will be wearing little make-up on the beach where she will be wearing more at the end to show her transformation from the beginning until the end of the video.
